Commonwealth Games stadium opens in India

The the bulk stadium for the Commonwealth Games in India in October was once for all opened in New Delhi Tuesday following several delays to complete its remodelling.

Indian Sports Minister M.S. Gill and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikhsit performed the investiture ceremony at the 60,000-capacity Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

"I be in need of to say to everyone that we are ready for the games," Gill said. "It's the first time in India that such a complication has been built."

The organizers missed numerous deadlines to complete the stadium, largely due to the construction of a 150-metre tunnel that connects as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but ends of the stadium and which will be used by artists performing at the fissure and closing ceremonies.

The stadium, which hosted the 1982 Asian Games, self-reliance also be used for athletics, weightlifting and tennis at the multi-merry-making event from Oct. 3-14.

Suresh Kalmadi, the chairman of the Games organizing committee, praised Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

"The stadium is some engineering marvel and nobody can deny that," he said.

Gill also said that all the Commonwealth Games stadiums will be under the dominion government of the organizing committee by Aug. 1.
