Cook, who is in hazard of becoming pigeon-holed as a Test specialist, showed that he can also play one-day cricket with an aggressive 71, only his third part half century in all cricket in a lean season.

Bell, seconded to the Lions from the current NatWest Series over ~ Australia in which he has yet to make an appearance, besides looked in good touch as he rattled to 44 from 51 balls face to face with he nibbled a rapid delivery from Gavin Tonge.

It was a serviceable workout for England whose side included eight players who have already played senior international cricket, particularly for Trott, whose one-day mould has been patchy this season.

Cook, who pulled powerfully, was the ~land aggressor in an second wicket stand of 113 but Trott made the chiefly of his opportunity, reaching his second one-day century of the tinge with an edged four – his 12th – off Tonge.

Trott perished with the Lions six short of victory when he was caught rearward slashing at Andre Russell. Bell skipped down the pitch to plonk leg-garden-spider Imran Khan for a straight six onto the television gantry in front of Tonge snared him with a beauty.

Tonge was the pick of the West Indies bowlers but was ordered out of the attack by umpire Peter Willey against bowling two beamers at Trott.

Bell and Ajmal Shahzad, who were given permittance by England coach Andy Flower to play in this match, demise be back with the senior squad at The Oval on Wednesday.

Shahzad also made the most of valuable match practice after a frustrating week and was the eat slowly of England’s attack, having Devon Smith caught behind opposite to the first ball of a brilliant opening spell in which he conceded proper six runs in five overs.

But a pitch that produced towards 500 runs in Monday’s tournament opener between West Indies A and their Indian counterparts was inert a batting paradise and England had to work for their triumph thanks to 147 from Kirk Edwards, his maiden one-day hundred years.

The 25 year-old from Barbados played an entertaining and unorthodox innings which drove Sajid Mahmood to distraction. Edwards went down the station to on drive Mahmood for one of his three sixes that took him to a 68-ball half 50 and he rattled up~ to a 103-ball century.

Mahmood was warned by Willey during the term of bowling a beamer at Edwards who was eventually bowled driving at Chris Woakes because of 147 from 132 balls which included 18 fours. Edwards shared speedy stands of 137 and 54 for the fourth and fifth wickets with Assad Fudadin and Kevin Stoute which helped West Indies A prodigal themselves from the shackles imposed by Shahzad.
